'Squid Game' Season 2 Predictions: Who Will Take Over as Boss After Il-nam's Death?

Squid Game continues to take the world by storm, showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Netflix's most successful series has set the bar high with its heart-pounding storyline and iconic characters.

Now, fans are eagerly anticipating the second installment of the hit South Korean series. Although nothing has been confirmed yet, several theories and predictions surfaced online about what to expect in season 2.

Squid Game Season 2 in the Works?

Squid Game is undoubtedly the biggest Netflix series to date, continuously gaining momentum from millions of viewers worldwide. According to reports, the gory thriller show is expected to deliver a whopping $891 million to the company.

Naturally, Netflix would want to order for another season. With its immense success, it's only fitting to do so. But the series' brilliant creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has yet to confirm whether or not it's happening soon.

Still, he's pretty much open to the idea of Squid Game Season 2. In fact, he already has some ideas on what to tackle next.

Squid Game Season Predictions: What to Expect?

In an interview with THR, Hwang Dong-hyuk acknowledged the "open-ended" storylines he wants to explore in Squid Game Season 2.

"For example, the story of the police officer and the story of his brother, The Front Man," Hwang Dong-hyuk said. "So if I end up creating Season 2, I'd like to explore that storyline – what is going on between those two brothers?"

The Squid Game creator also teased a potential storyline about the recruiter, played by actor Gong Yoo. Of course, the series wouldn't be complete without the main character, Seong Gi-Hun (Lee Jung-Jae).

"We could go with Gi-hun's story as he turns back," Hwang Dong-hyuk added. "And explore more about how he's going to navigate through his reckoning with the people who are designing the games."

Who Will Take Over as Leader After Oh IL Nam's Death?

Another burning topic about Squid Game Season 2 is the replacement of the organization's leader, Oh Il-nam. At the end of the season, Il-nam, who was also Player 001, died just after revealing to Gi-hun that he was the original creator of the games.

This left the organization without a leader, but not for long. After a year, they're at it again, and Gi-hun himself witnessed The Recruiter baiting their new victims. This implies that they have found a new leader, though it was not revealed.

Throughout the season, there is only one likely candidate to replace Il-nam. It's none other than The Frontman (Lee Byung-hun).

The masked character on the Squid Game made a lasting impression on viewers. Not only does he knows every aspect of the games, but he's also taken on essential duties like hosting the VIPs when Il-nam wasn't available.

He's also dead set on implementing the rules and will do anything to protect the organization. Clearly, he has what it takes to be the next leader. But what about Gi-hun?

Hwang Dong-hyuk hinted that Gi-hun's story would continue as he turns back and explores more about the organization. Will he wreak havoc on the organization? Will he be able to crush it down to the ground? Or will he end up being part of it too?

So far, Squid Game Season 2 is still up in the air. Fans will have to wait and see if the beloved series will be back soon.
